Registration & Dues

Posted by St Martha Sports Ministry at Aug 22, 2014 8:44AM PDT

In the excitement and confusion of starting a new school year, there are some families with children playing Fall sports who have not registered with the Sports Ministry for the 2014-2015 season.

Registration for all grade school sports at St. Martha is held during school registration. Membership dues for 3rd – 8th grade are $100 per year for the first child and $25 for each additional child. (There may be other fees for specific sports, but we make every effort to keep these fees to a minimum). Membership allows any student to participate in the grade school sports program at St. Martha as long as he/she meets eligibility requirements. Dues help to cover the cost of uniforms, equipment, and CSAA League fees. The membership dues are applicable no matter how many sports your child(ren) plays.

No child may participate in the sports program unless the dues are paid or forgiven by the pastor. Payment of the dues also makes your family a Sports Ministry member. Our membership dues are very low in comparison to other CSAA schools. This is made possible by the efforts of the Sports Ministry, such as operating the concession stand during adult sports, hosting CSAA leagues and special fundraising events (i.e. Martha Gras).

Each family is required to work in the concession stand during each the sport season. The number of shifts will vary depending on need but no family will be scheduled for more than 2 shifts per season. Also, if your child plays ANY sport during the 2014-2015 school year, each family will be scheduled to work two shifts during the Adult Sports Season which will run from May 2015 through August 2015.

If you have not registered, and your child(ren) plan on participating in the sports program this school year, please complete the registration form located in the Documents section of our website. Send the form and your dues payment to school in an envelope marked, Attention: Sports Ministry Registration, Joe Burns, c/o Maggie Burns 8W.

Thank you!

Sports Ministry would like to thank those football parents who helped on Thursday night to convert the field for football season. Your time given is much appreciated! Special thanks to David Bowling and Chris Stewart, who maintain our field all year, and contribute significant time for our Ministry.

Dear Sports Ministry Members,
I would like to address an issue which unfortunately seems to rear its ugly head every year. St. Martha Sports Ministry works very hard to schedule CSAA football games at our field during the fall, and to coordinate Summer Adult Sports Leagues. The revenue generated from these functions goes to the GENERAL fund of St. Martha, and allows us
to offer a wide variety of opportunities for the children of our parish. You may not realize it, but we are one of the few sports programs with the resources to offer most sports to all families for one athletic fee. Most parishes charge a fee for every sport to
cover CSAA league charges, equipment costs and facility rentals.

This is a blessing made possible as a result of the hard work of our many volunteers at St. Martha (Martha Gras, Adult Sports Coordinators, Parish Picnic, St. Martha Field Caretakers,
Concession Stand Coordinator, etc.).

We completely understand that everyone has busy schedules. However, a most important part of our responsibility as members of the Parish is stewardship of our time. We require all parents who have children participating in sports programs at St. Martha to work shifts in the concession stand during football season and Spring/Summer Adult
Sports. Revenues from the concession stand directly benefit you and your children; your gift of your time is truly needed and appreciated. A Concession Stand Schedule is posted on the Sports Ministry website, the school website and included in the weekly
school newsletter. If for some reason you cannot work your shift, it is your responsibility to find a replacement.
When those scheduled to work do not keep their commitment it places a burden on those parents who are working, and ultimately may affect the revenues from the concession stand.

After much reflection, we have decided that we have no other choice
but to issue the following policy:

+Continued failure to work your assigned concession stand shift WILL result in your child(ren) sitting out of all practices and/or games until your shift is completed. In the event that this action is necessary, you will be notified by the Sports Ministry
Board.
+

Respectfully,
Father Hamilton, Pastor
